Introducing the perfect entry point into the controllable power and great feel of the Speed family

With the introduction of the Speed MP L 2024, Head puts the controllable power and great feel of the Speed MP into a lighter, faster package. At 10.5 ounces strung, this racquet gives improving intermediate players a user-friendly tool for honing their craft and rising to the next level. In addition to its 16x19 string pattern and spin-friendly targeting, the Speed MP L has a 60-RA beam stiffness, making it one of the most arm-friendly members of its class. It also packs a sub 320 swingweight, which makes it easy for less advanced players to maximize stroke speed when loading the ball with pace and spin. Notable technologies include Auxetic 2, a uniquely flexible material in the yolk and handle to optimize the feel and response. The Speed MP L also benefits from Graphene 360+ (labeled Graphene Inside), which strengthens the frame in key locations to provide a more powerful and stable hitting experience. Ultimately, with this light version of the Speed MP, Head gives rising intermediate players the perfect entry point into the controllable power and great feel of the Speed family. The arm-friendly comfort is a nice bonus.

Comfort & StabilityI'm a full time tennis coach and do just about everything while on the job (e.g. feeding, mini tennis, baseline rallies, net play, and points with serve). I was using a Wilson Ultra 100 V4, and while I enjoy playing with this racquet, I was beginning to feel significant soreness in my arm, especially when the strings started to go dead. I figured it would be worth investing in a lighter, more comfortable frame. After weeks of research I landed on the Head Speed MP L with many reviewers noting that this racquet is comfortable without sacrificing stability. So I went ahead and bought it, not even thinking about demoing the racquet as I wanted my arm to feel better. I'm happy to report that the racquet is very comfortable, stable, and packs a decent amount of power. I had the racquet strung with Head Velocity MLT 16 at 52lbs and it feels great while feeding and rallying. I noticed that the shorter the backswing the better the racket felt. I rallied with one of my heavy hitting 4.0 players and the racquet held up extremely well. If you're a coach looking for a comfortable frame to work with, without sacrificing power and stability, I definitely recommend checking this one out. If you're looking to play with this racquet, however, that's a different story. I played one set with a 3.5 player and while the racquet felt great during rallies I struggled to get my serve in and to hit precise approach shots. I switched back to my Wilson Ultra in the second set and my problems were solved. I'm sure a little customization would solve this but I bought the racquet for coaching, not for playing matches. Very happy with my purchase and my arm soreness has gone down significantly!

Great All-AroundBought this with the intentions of customizing it since the Speed MP swingweight in 2024 was 330 with a 4 pt head light balance. Much too high for a 3.5 player. I customized it to a 325 swingweight & 6 points head light. Maintained that controllable power the Speed is known for while becoming much more maneuverable! Hits every shot in the book very well! Fits ANY play style! And honestly, I thought it played great with its stock specs when strung with a multi, too! I felt confident taking it to a 3.5/4.0 tournament with that setup. This is a racquet you can’t go wrong with.

Great platform racquetAs another reviewer said, the regular MP's swingweight is too high for many players and definitely too high for much customization. But this MP L is the same racquet, as far as I can tell, just with less weight. Here's what to do: buy one grip size less than you need (4 1/4, if you play with 4 3/8), and add a "Heat Shrink Sleeve (build one grip size)" from TW, which will add 13-15 grams. Then, add lead as designed on either end. And/or add a leather grip, which adds about 10g as compared to the stock synthetic grip. Presto: a more maneuverable, fully capable Speed MP.

Great frame for customizationI bought this L version for adding weight because the SW of the Speed MP 2024 is way higher than my Speed MP 2022. Without weight, it feels underpowered and unstable for me. I ended up putting two overgrips and around two extra grams of weight in the handle, and three grams at the 3 & 9 point. It is still lighter than MP version but feels great and I can swing it for higher SPEED!
