Power meets precision

Dunlop adds another chapter to the FX 500 Tour! Like the previous generation, the stick packs the thinnest beam and smallest headsize in the FX family. The result is a powerful racquet that hits with a high degree of accuracy (think confidence). It also has an around 320 swingweight, giving it explosive acceleration from the baseline and quick handling at net. For 2025, Dunlop introduces a Power Boost+ Frame Geometry that increases the beam width in key locations to boost power and stability. Other updates include Power Wave Grommets, which deploy an innovative wave pattern to stiffen the center of the stringbed, creating a more even feel and power level across the hitting zone. As with the previous generation, Dunlop adds comfort by using Sonic Core w/Infinergy in the upper hoop, along with an anti-vibration compound in the grip and midsection of the head. Ultimately, with some nice updates to the mold and stringbed response, the 2025 FX Tour delivers an impressive combination of speed, power, precision, and feel.

Surprisingly precise, very powerfulDunlop finally got this racquet right in this new version, although it needs more weight in the hoop (more about that in a second). I have tried all the 98 inch 16x19 power frames--I string for people, and borrow their stuff--and this is my favorite by far, so much that I bought it. Dunlop has managed to make the frame very precise, very powerful, spinny enough, comfortable enough, and forgiving enough. If you are a precise player who can center the ball on every shot, and provide your own spin, this thing is a real weapon. It competes well with Ezone 98 because it's much more precise, whereas the Ezone 98 is more forgiving; power levels are the same. It competes well with the Radical Pro because the Radical Pro achieves power through mass and control through flex and a dense stringbed, whereas the Dunlop achieves power and control through hoop stiffness. The FX 500 Tour has a much thinner beam and slightly denser stringbed than the SX 300 Tour, so again, the FX 500 Tour is by far the more precise racquet. The Ezone 98 and Radical Pro are great racquets but if the Ezone 98 is too disconnected and imprecise for you, and the Radical Pro is too heavy, then go for the FX 500 Tour. The only negative is that the stock swingweight is too low to get the most out of the racket. Add lead until the swingweight is at least 325, and maybe higher. I usually go for about 333 sw but I found that 326 sw works well in this racquet because it's plenty stiff and doesn't need weight for power.
