When it comes to ball machines, you've likely seen the usual big metal box with wheels, levers and practically zero portability. Tenniix is the opposite of the traditional approach to a ball machine, in that it is highly portable , lightweight (22 lbs), and easy to use, even from the other end of the court via the Tenniix smartphone app. The machine is battery-operated, meaning you can use it anywhere, on any tennis courts. The Tenniix ball machine has two main modes: Training Mode and Match Mode. In Training Mode, users can create and select a specific type of shot that they want to practice hitting against, all curated and adjusted through the companion app. Training Mode gives you the option to choose from practicing against any of these shot types: Baseline Ball, Short Ball, Feed Ball, Volley Shot, Kill Shot, Moon Ball, Hand Feed, Top Spin, and Back Spin. Once the type of shot has been selected, the Tenniix app lets users customize any and all of the following with a slider:

  • Ball Speed - How fast the ball is dispensed from Tenniix.
  • Shot Angle - The angle of elevation for launch.
  • Ball Spin (0-5,000 RPM's) - Amount of rotations per minute inputted on the ball (topspin).
  • Horizontal rotation (side spin) - A slider for adjusting sideways ball movement.
  • Feed interval timing (1-10 seconds)

In Match Mode, Tenniix will time the shots it feeds to you as if they were being hit by a real opponent. This is great for simulating actual rallies, instead of just working on the same shot with the same timing repeatedly. Also in Match Mode, users can adjust the same shot qualities listed above. Players can choose between any of the following rally modes:

  • Baseline Rally - Series of shots that mimic baseline to baseline exchanges, with shots landing deep in the court and close to the baseline consistently.
  • Deep and Short Rally - A series of shots that switches between a baseline ball and shots nearer the service line, prompting you to attack the point.
  • Move Rally - A sequence of rally balls that are designed to make you move to the ball, facilitating better footwork and sharper timing.
  • Spin Rally - A shot sequence designed to mimic slice battles or heavy topspin exchanges.

All-in-all, our team of equipment testers was thoroughly impressed by the functionality and ease-of-use of the Tenniix ball machine. Its highly customizable ball outputs are among some of the best we've seen, and the Match Mode is great at simulating the actual timing of a rally. The portability is another standout feature, as it is easily packed up and slung over the shoulder with a carrying strap. For even more options with voice control, check out the Tenniix Voice Armband Module.

Overall: Tenniix's Basic AI Ball Machine is a one-of-a-kind ball machine, driven by real-time AI analytics. It's great for working on specific shots or for simulating a rally, easily moving you around the court if so desired.

good tool for self-trainingI practiced training mode twice. it is easy to set up and easy to operate. I can go out to practice without calling around to find someone to play with. I used training mode for short balls, baseline balls and moon balls so far. I am pleased with this machine.

Everything I Was Hoping ForShipment/ Order Experience: Ordered this machine on December 27th, and it arrived January 6! I originally went with buying it here instead of from Tenniix so I could reach out to TW support in case of any issues, since they're a long established company with a support team in close proximity. Was initially worried about the shipping times since the Tenniix website says 5-7 weeks shipping time, and since it's drop shipped from them, I assumed it'd be a few extra days of processing on top of that. However, I heard back from the Tenniix support staff and they said they have a decent amount in stock in their North American warehouse for Tennis Warehouse orders! If you order it here, you'll get an email a few days later that says Tracking # in the subject line; the tracking number is actually at the very bottom of the email after the make/model/color. Just plug that number into Google and you'll be able to track it via FedEx Accessories / App: Not sure how long they'll be doing this, but my order came with both a free voice armband and a spare battery! Between that and the free shipping, this thing is an absolute steal for the money vs what's out there on the market. I love that it's a modular design so you can get to playing right away at a reasonable price, then you can choose to upgrade to the vision module and/or the motorized base later. I would strongly suggest getting a feel for the voice commands and tinkering around with the ball/drill settings in the app before heading out on the court since you need to use the exact words in the voice commands to be able to change the ball / placement on the fly, otherwise the commands won't work (make sure to hold down the button the entire time you're speaking). Functionality/Gameplay: I've only gotten to play with it for a few hours yesterday but my initial impressions are overall extremely impressed! This packs all the punch of a traditional $3000+ machine like a Playmate in the weight and size of a cooler. Even at 45% speed and 10% topspin, it was still able to fire forehands and backhands from one baseline to the other. Holds a full case of balls with room to spare, and even has an LED on the front that lets you know the type of shot that's incoming and the direction the ball is going. I haven't played around too much with the custom balls / drills or match mode, but I did try most of the regular training modes. You'll have to adjust the power/height/spin of these basic drills depending on where you place the machine on the court, because the default settings are a bit weak if you're setting it up on the opposite baseline. Did some baseline forehands, alternating forehands + backhands, alternating 2h backhand + slice, overhead hits against moonballs, and volleys, and the machine handled all of them easily. Today I'll probably play around with the custom stuff and match mode, will update the review with those later if it lets me. Hope this helps! If you're in the market for a ball machine, I'm confident this is the best value for your money that you can get to up your game and get a great workout. It was a no-brainer for me since lessons are $100 and ball machine rentals are $40 where I live, so this thing is practically going to pay for itself in a month or two.
